“The ocean is growing. The tide is coming in. Here it is.” -David Crowder Band

It began ten years ago during that bittersweet year of high school when I first met her. Those few months she blessed me with her presence changed me. The shine of her smile woke me from slumber, the coolness of her voice cast out the wildfire from my head, the warmth of her heart rescued mine from the ice, and the glow of her green eyes guided me in a new direction. Never before did I notice how beautiful a woman’s eyes could be. I hadn’t gazed to the stars before. She lifted my face and I drank from her emerald fonts. She fed me and I had hope.

She disappeared and I stumbled into the wilderness in search of something as small as a feather of her wings. I never found the Rose, but I found the Lily. She sewed robes from her petals and dressed me in royalty. She filled me during the famine with her nectar and restored the strength and the passion that withered in the desert. The Rose conceived me, the Lily completed me.

A decade has past, but I have neither relented nor receded. I will find the Angel with the very seeds she gave to me. Those specks of dust hatch into trees that tower mountains and reach their canopy across the expanse of the sky. I can see the entire world perched atop the apex of the tower of Babel. I will find her and I will show her not the boy she knew -I hatched out of that hard shell- but a new creation.
